So that's 2024 then. And what a year it's been.
Mockingbird was already a strong band with plenty of potential at the begining of 2024. The unique combination of musicians had already proven itself and attracted a following. Rock, blues, outlaw country and a few original tunes in there too. Not bad!
But an important change was made when Leah joined in May ‘24. A great frontwoman with a strong stage personality, Leah’s inclusion allowed the band to reach for things that hadn't been possible before, and the results were quickly made public. In the summer, the new line up made its debut at The Auld Motorhoose, then appeared a few days later at the prestigious Dounby Show, to a great reception. The band was tighter and sharper, the harmonies stronger, the whole thing a lot more focused. In September, a capacity crowd at the 9th Orkney Rock Festival was treated to Kevano's rendering of “Won't Get Fooled Again”, amongst other delights. The new line up was established.
A trip to Hoy to play at the Gable End followed later, where the band played to a full house, and were later to learn that this was the theatre's best night in recent years. It should be noted that the band were fed, housed and made exeptionally welcome. Many thanks to all involved.
2025 feels positive. Stay tuned.
